We claim to have the Best Banh Mi in Richmond. That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it.
So, WTF is “Banh Mi” anyways? Banh Mi is a Vietnamese style Sandwich that has six basic requirements:
1: Crusty bread
2: Flavorful protein or meat
Any variations there in are subject to the Banh Mi sandwich in question. Here at The Boka Truck, we profile our flavors across Asian-Mexican and American ingredients. Thus, our Sambal pork is braised with Guajillo peppers and Mountain dew, our Mayonnaise is seasoned with sherry and siracha, our vinegar is infused with fresh lime, and our herbs include cilantro, thai basil and garlic chive. But we can’t give away all the secrets, we have a few surprises in there too.
But I assure that every taste bud will light up as you taste our salty-savory pork, sweet and sour vinegar, bitter-sweet aromatic herbs, spicy heat and cool mayonnaise across your palate with every inhale and exhale. Our Pork Banh Mi pairs nicely with Riesling or Gewurtztraminer should you happen to be near a wine shop and the Boka Truck at the same time (Find us at J Emerson Wine Fridays from 2:30-3:30, or Wine and Beer Westpark Monday May 3rd from 5:30-6:30).
And, to answer the question that everyone has been whispering about…Who is going to challenge the Boka Truck to a Throw down? …We have been challenged by Cafe Gutenburg. Asia Bakery has been contacted about the Throwdown, and has yet to reply. If they are in, we will update the competition accordingly. A date has not been picked yet, but we will announce the details of the competition once the details are settled on. Keep tuned, and in the mean time, try our Banh Mi out. It is Bangin! You can get it with Tofu too if you don’t eat meat Not for the Glycemics, sorry.
Oh yeah, and a tribute to the late Jack Palance since we took his quote for this week’s Blog title. I remember this commercial clearly growing up and imitated this quote many a time. Classic.
